Free Tips For Sleeping Better
So you have no trouble falling asleep, but staying that way is more difficult? It is often taken for granted that after becoming able to sleep through the night as a child that you’ll be able to do so without problems for the rest of your life. Unfortunately, for many this is not the case, and sleeping through the whole night is something they can only dream of. There are many little things you can do to help improve your sleep, leaving you bright eyed and bushy tailed in the morning.
Drinking Alcohol
Making sure that your last beverages are a few hours before you go to bed is a good way to avoid have to get up to go to the bathroom in the middle of the night. Consuming alcohol before bed is also not a good idea, because once your body has processed the alcohol and it’s no longer in your system you may experience withdrawal symptoms, which can wake you up.
Light And Noise
Even a little bit of light can keep you up. Thick dark curtains will help block out light from streetlights or the moon outside, and switching off all electrical appliances in your room that emit light should help you get to sleep easier. If you can’t completely remove the light from your sleeping area, an eye mask will block it all out.
Little noises can also disrupt your sleep, even if they seem insignificant while you’re awake. Turning off the dripping tap, closing your window to reduce street noise and turning your cell phone off are all good ways to avoid being woken up in the middle of the night by noise.
Calm Yourself Down
Being calm and relaxed can help you get a deeper, more satisfying sleep. Doing relaxation exercises before you go to bed, like meditation, deep breathing or yoga can allow you to sleep better and longer through the night.
If you are uncomfortable in your bed, your sleep will not be as relaxing or as satisfying, and it can cause you to wake up several times during the night. While it may be expensive, investing in a more supportive mattress is a good idea for improving your sleep, and ensuring you always wake up on the right side of the bed.
People with head and neck pain might consider getting a new pillow, which will better support these areas, and allow them to get the rest they need.
